Cloudinary was founded in 2012 by three developers who kept coming up
against the challenge. They realized the way we experience media is everything – but behind every fast, responsive website and app was a massive media management headache. They built Cloudinary to give brands a fast and flawless way to upload, manage, and deliver thousands of images, videos and other media content at scale.

Today, Cloudinary is a billion-dollar company helping over 9000 of our favorite brands – like Levis, Hilton, Atlassian and more – optimize their media content, reduce load times, and improve responsiveness.

THEIR CHALLENGE

Low-resolution payments.

When we met the team, they were struggling to collect payments across 21 different AP portals. The burden was on Cloudinary’s billing team to manually register for each portal and continuously update their profiles.
Then came the really hard part. Every month, the team was manually submitting invoices to collect millions of dollars from portal customers. These invoices all had to be formatted to the exact requirements of each payment portal – a time- consuming, error-prone (and boring) amount of manual work that led to an increased rate of invoice rejections and delayed payments.

As the amount of customers preferring to use payment portals grew, figuring out a better way to navigate these portals and free up the billing team’s time was a top priority — especially when Cloudinary reached a breaking point where they were forced to turn away customers that used portals. These customers tended to be enterprise companies, the most important customers when it came to logo appeal and contract value.
